Expert consulting from our Aerospace engineers
Whatever you are creating, we can help make it happen. Stirling Dynamics has been supplying technical engineering expertise to the aerospace market for over 30 years. Our services support new aircraft designs and modification programmes, for both fixed and rotary wing platforms in civil and military arenas. As well as our design and analysis capabilities, our expertise also extends to the design of flightworthy equipment for major aircraft programmes and we are recognised as the UK’s leading independent landing gear specialist.

Core Capabilities
Electromechanical Design
Within Electromechanical Design, Stirling Dynamics brings together a team with experience in mechanical, electrical, and electronic engineering with the knowledge of CAD and stress analysis. We have a range of design skills to support both our own products and those of our customers, including the ability to reverse engineer existing designs. Our engineers also develop new designs to support many of our clients who then take these designs forward to manufacture.
Systems and Safety
The Systems and Safety capability group provides capability across a wide range of aerospace applications. Their expertise covers the full design life cycle; we have experience in new platform, system, and equipment developments as well as in continuous product development and system/equipment modifications. Our skills are used to support our customers, and our own product developments.
Simulation and Control
The Simulation and Control capability group operates across all major business units across the company, including training and simulation, aerospace and marine. We model all aspects of aerospace and marine systems and their environments, building integrated models that can be used to simulate all aspects of a system’s performance. Our understanding of system dynamics also allows us to develop and implement control laws for both aerospace and marine systems.
Structural and Fluid Dynamics
The Structural and Fluid Dynamics capability group cover the flight physics activities within the company. By building structural models of the airframe and landing gear and integrating an aerodynamic model onto the airframe, we can compute flight and grounds loads. Assurance that the operational envelope is clear of the instabilities of flutter and shimmy is established. Our strong aerodynamics capability, in both wing and rotary wing configurations, not only supports our loads activities but also allow us to provide design optimisation and performance assessments.
Redesigning the wheel
Applying our landing gear systems expertise to a novel invention
The future operation of aircraft will need to meet ever-demanding emission and efficiency targets and therefore, innovative solutions are required to support both new and in-service aircraft fleets. WheelTug is a company that has developed a pioneering concept to meet these challenges.

Aerospace FAQs
Do you have any questions about our aerospace services? We have you covered.
What air platforms have you worked on?
Over the last 30+ years, Stirling Dynamics has worked on over 70 different aircraft types and has played key roles in many of the major aircraft development programmes. These programmes include the F-35 Lightning II, Airbus Single Aisle Family, Widebody Family, A350, A400M, Bombardier C-Series and Global 7000/8000, Leonardo helicopter fleet and many others.
Can you still support us if we aren't based in the UK?
Absolutely. Due to a very well-developed set of communication tools and reporting processes, the majority of our work can be carried out very successfully from our UK and German offices, regardless of client location. Additionally, engineers are deployed all around the world and have provided direct, on-site team augmentation and knowledge transfer.
Do you work on-site or off-site?
Depending on customer requirements, we can do either or a blended hybrid of both. We pride ourselves on being extremely agile and flexible. The delivery of our services, from short term to more involved programmes, is achieved by employing a range of business models including on-site support, time-and-materials, and fixed-price packages.
Additionally, due to a very well-developed set of communication tools and reporting processes, the majority of our work can be carried out very successfully from our offices, regardless of client location.
Are you EASA accredited?
Yes, Stirling Dynamics is an EASA Part 21J Design Organisation, approval number EASA.21J.807.
What other accreditations do you have?
Stirling Dynamics is approved to the global aerospace quality standard AS9100 and a member of the ITAR Approved Community.
What toolsets do you use for your work?
We are well versed using industry standard and specialist tools. Additionally, we have developed an independent suite of tools that enable us to calculate ground, flight, and component loads, and also specialist tools for flutter and shimmy analysis.
We have an aircraft without OEM data, can you still help us?
Yes, we can. In fact, reverse engineering is one of our specialisms. Some complex programmes require a wide range of these skills to ‘reverse-engineer’ an aircraft model from sparse data sets. We are often approached to support aircraft design and modification programmes where original OEM data is unavailable or prohibitively expensive. Our niche capabilities and experience enable us to recreate accurate data for a fraction of the cost of purchasing from the original OEM.
Do you have any experience in model-based systems engineering?
We do and are specialists in the field of model-based systems engineering. To learn more, read our latest whitepaper here.
